A Heavenly Message
Mary lived in a small town called Nazareth. She was a young woman with a big heart and a quiet smile. One day, as she was drawing water, an angel suddenly appeared before her. Mary was startled, but the angel spoke in a gentle voice: "Do not be afraid, Mary. You are blessed by God. You will have a child – a son. He will be called Jesus."
Mary could hardly believe it. "How can this be?", she asked softly. The angel smiled. "God himself will be with you. Your child will be very special."
Mary suddenly felt a sense of peace. She nodded and said: "I am ready. Let it be as you have said."

The Journey Begins
It was a clear night, with a gentle breeze rustling through the dry grass. Mary and Joseph were on their way, a long journey behind them. Their destination was Bethlehem, a small town, full of people, because the emperor had called everyone to their hometown.
Mary was tired. The child in her womb grew, making every stretch more arduous. Joseph walked silently beside her, his thoughts on the accommodation they still had to find. But something accompanied them: a feeling of peace.
A small bird sat on a stone by the roadside and chirped, as if to say: "Just a little further, then you'll be there." Next to the path, a camel trotted along leisurely with other travelers. And high up in the sky, a star shone particularly brightly.

The Night in the Stable
When they finally arrived in Bethlehem, all the inns were full. "Perhaps over there?", said Joseph, pointing to a simple stable. Mary nodded. She had no strength left.
In this quiet night, the miracle happened. Between hay and warm animal breath, the child was born. Mary wrapped him in cloths and laid him in a manger. Joseph stood beside her, exhausted, but full of wonder. The ox and donkey looked curiously at the small being lying there, sleeping as if he were exactly where he belonged.
Outside, the world lay in darkness, but in the stable there was light. Not harsh, but soft and still. So something great began, very quietly.

The Message of the Angels
In a field outside the city, shepherds were tending their sheep. It was cold, and the fire crackled as they talked and laughed. Suddenly there was a light. An angel stood before them, bright and beautiful, and said: "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news: Today the Savior is born. You will find him in a stable."
The shepherds looked at each other. Then more angels appeared in the sky. They sang songs so beautiful that tears came to the shepherds' eyes.
"Come, we must see him!", cried one, and they set off – with warm hearts, cold feet, and a goal that shone brighter than any star.

The Kings Follow the Star
In a distant land, three wise men observed the sky. One pointed upwards: "Do you see the star? It means something. A new king is born."
They packed gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Then they set off. For days they traveled through sand and wind, always following the light.
When they finally arrived at the stable, they found the child, the mother, the father. They knelt down, laid their gifts, and knew: This was a moment for eternity.

This story is over 2000 years old. It has been passed down – whispered in dark rooms, read aloud in churches, lovingly read on Advent Sunday. And yet: It has lost none of its magic.
And so our little journey through the Christmas story ends. Perhaps as you read, you felt a little of the peace that makes this time so special. Perhaps you have an image in your mind that makes you smile.
If you want to carry these scenes not only in your heart but also behold them in everyday life, you will find our DIY advent calendars below this article. Each motif is lovingly hand-painted and tells the story in its own quiet way.
Let yourself be inspired. And perhaps this Advent will be something very special.
